Members of the Maina Areal Raia Curtorim (MARC) farmers Club have lambasted the Agriculture Department for delaying the process of procuring a harvester by the club. The alleged that they suspect foul play as ‘evident from the treatment meted out to the Club by the agriculture department’.

Chairman of the club, Moreno Rebello told the media that the club’s initiative to procure a harvester for the benefit of the farmers has not evoked support and cooperation from the Agriculture Department for reasons best known to the Dept officials.

“We fail to understand who is behind the delay in the Agriculture Department to grant us the sanctions. First, our application to purchase the harvester was pending with the department from February to August on the pretext that we mentioned the name of a non-existent dealer. The department could have intimated us early so that we could have made the changes but there was no cooperation forthcoming”, he said.

Moreno added: “After we procured the harvester, we have not been given the service area to put the machinery in operation. How will the farmers benefit from the machinery if they do not get the benefit of subsidy”?

He said the MARC farmers club was specifically formed to help the farmers of the areas of Maina, Curtorim, Raia and Areal, but has suspected an unknown hand for the hurdles that has come in the way of operation of the machinery.
