
Rich tributes are being paid by citizens to Floriano Vaz, the first martyr of the language movement on his 58th birth anniversary.

Citizens of Fatorda on Wednesday, particularly from the Scheduled Tribe community observed the 58th birth anniversary of Konkani language first Martyr Floriano Vaz at the Gogol junction.
Led by Margao Municipal Council Camilo Barretto, the citizens paid rich tributes to Vaz at his bust installed at the Gogol junction.
Saying that Floriano Vaz has been an inspiration to the ST youth over the years, Camilo recalled that Vaz had sacrificed his life to ensure that Konkani language get the Official language status.
“We cannot forget the role played by Floriano Vaz in the Konkani Language movement before he was shot dead by the CRPF personnel. He continues to be the inspiration for the youth hailing from the ST community as well as for other communities over the years”, he said.
The citizens garlanded the bust of Vaz while paying him rich tributes.
