Parishioners of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church at Panaji celebrated the birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Wednesday.

The solemn concelebrated Mass was presided over by Parish Priest Fr Walter de Sa, along with Fr Reagan Fernandes and Fr Haston Fernandes.

Few children, on behalf of the catechism children and youngsters, carried flowers and entered the Church together with the priests and laid them down at the feet of Mother Mary, symbolising their filial affection and commitment to a truly Christian living, and seeking her patronage for an early end of the current Covid pandemic.

At Mass, Fr Walter de Sa reminded the faithful to discover in the birth of Mary the loving and compassionate plan of God who comes down to humanity to establish a covenant with Him. Further, he exhorted the participants to live always in hope and in joy, and share it, notwithstanding the adversities, troubled times and affliction faced by us.

The feast was also observed as Mother’s Day by the children to express their love and gratitude to their self-sacrificing mothers. As a token of appreciation, the children composed a poem and a song recorded in a video. The celebration ended with serving of the birthday cake.
