Fatorda MLA vows to focus on resolving Sonsodo imbroglio

Fatorda MLA vows to focus on resolving Sonsodo imbroglio

MARGAO

Goa Forward chief & Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on Tuesday said that he would focus more on resolving the Sonsodo imbroglio and work towards getting an ultra-modern bus stand in place of the decades-old shed housing the Margao bus stand.

He also demanded a vigilance probe into the delay by the SGPDA in the payment of bills, including water bills, running into crores of rupees.

Addressing the media after launching the de-silting of major stormwater nullahs in the Fatorda constituency, Sardesai said he would monitor the Sonsodo imbroglio every week.

“I have decided to monitor the Sonsodo situation every week. I may even go to the Sonsodo once a week to take stock of the situation. Sonsodo will be my priority. We have to address the issue on priority”, he said.

Saying that he may be in the opposition after his Goa Forward party won a lone seat in the recently held election after he retained the Fatorda seat, Sardesai said he would vigorously pursue the Margao bus stand proposal with the government. “The BJP has its district office just opposite the Margao bus stand. The ruling party has set its eyes on the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. If the party wants to win the South Goa seat, it will have to address the bus stand issue on priority. The present antique bus stand should go. It does not look good and is an eyesore”, he added.

Stating that he would stress upon a vigilance probe into the affairs of the SGPDA collections and payments, the Fatorda MLA said the PDA should inquire why water and other bills have been lying in the PDA without payments.

“The new SGPDA chairman MLA Krishna Salkar had got a shock when he realized that pending bills run into crores of rupees. There ought to be an inquiry to find out why these bills have not been cleared by the SGPDA,” he demanded.

He pointed out that work on the stormwater nullah de-silting will be carried out in the Fatorda constituency in the next 10 days.
