Hazard a guess what would constitute the geographical boundaries of the proposed Fatorda police station mooted by local MLA and TCP Minister, Vijai Sardesai, which is now scheduled for inauguration on Dusehera day on September 30?
Well, the original proposal prepared by the Goa police over two years ago was to carve out the new Fatorda police station from the areas of Margao and Maina Curtorim police stations, comprising of the areas of Fatorda Municipal area and Nuvem village.
Two years down the line and with the TCP Minister bulldozing with the police station proposal after the Manohar
Parrikar-led coalition government
came to power after the 2017 Assembly election, the geographical boundaries are believed to have undergone a change. Neither is Nuvem village figuring in the proposed Fatorda police station or is the Comba area of Margao.
If the TCP Minister is to be believed, the government has restricted the geographical limits of the Fatorda police station the
Municipal areas of Fatorda and the neighbouring Housing Board area.
Initially, Sardesai had insisted that the proposed police station should be restricted to the geographical limits of Fatorda Assembly constituency,
However, since the Fatorda Assembly constituency fall shorts of the area requirements, the housing board area, which now comes under the Margao police station, will be included in the proposed Fatorda police station jurisdiction.
Politically speaking, the Housing Board area, which is part and parcel of the Margao Municipal Council, forms part of the Curtorim Assembly constituency.
In the meantime, Sardesai said the government notification carving out the new Fatorda police station will be issued on Monday before it is formally inaugurated at the hands of Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar on September 30.
The TCP Minister along with district police chief Arvind Gawas, DySP Prabodh Shirwaikar, besides GSIDC and police officials inspected the proposed police station on Saturday morning to review the progress of civil works at the abandoned police quarters at Arlem.
Given that the GSIDC is left with a week to go for the formal inauguration of the police station, the
Minister has called for expediting the work on a war footing before the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar inaugurates the police station on Dushera day.
