Sporting Club of Davorlim beat St Anthony's Sports Club, Colva 1-0 to emerge champions in the 35th Gold Silver Rolling Trophy inter village football tournament at Rosary Ground, Navelim on Saturday. There was no score at half time in the absorbing final of the tournament which is played in the memory of late Joaquim Faleiro and organized by Navelim Sporting Club.
Both the teams displayed attacking intent and had equal number of scoring chances but their forwards failed to find the target. Paxton Gomes scored the only goal of the match to seal the rivals' fate in the 59th minute.
Sporting Club of Davorlim were richer by Rs 40,000 and a winner's trophy while St Anthony’s SC had to settle for Rs 30,000. Former Chief Minister Luizinho Faleiro was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of guest of honour Rev Fr Jose Roque Gonsalves, Parish Priest of Our Lady of Rosary Church, Navelim and special invitees Edwin Cipru Cardozo, ZP member, Navelim Constituency; Bishut Themudo, GFA Executive member and George Baretto.Individual prizes: First scorer of the final- Paxton Gomes (Sporting Club Davorlim), best goalkeeper “ Ashish Shetkar (Sporting Club Davorlim), best half “ Nelson Gomes (St Anthony’s SC, Colva), best forward “ Joel Colaco (Sporting Club Davorlim), best defender - Dennis Ferrao (St Anthony’s SC, Colva), Promising player of the tournament- Anil Siolkar (Navelim Sporting Club), Best player of the tournament- Melwin Gaonkar (Raia Sporting Club), Upcoming player of the tournament- Clinton Niasso (Navelim Sporting Club), best disciplined team- Chandor Sports Club.
