All eyes are focused on the Fatorda block Congress Committee as the party is gearing up for the induction of new members in the party on Thursday evening.
The induction has gained significance for another reason. Sources informed that Congress Fatorda in-charge, Mickky Pacheco is believed to have insisted on the presence of both Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) Chief Girish Chodankar and Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat for the programme.
Sources pointed out that Mickky has insisted with the party leadership that both Girish and Digambar should remain present for the induction programme in order to send a message loud and clear to the party rank and file in particular and the people of Fatorda that the Congress means business in the constituency.
While the GPCC Chief may have no issues in attending the induction program, all eyes are focused on the Opposition Leader, Digambar Kamat, with questions being raised in party circles whether the Margao MLA, who had in the recent past joined hands with Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai will make it for the induction program.
Mickky is believed to have told party leadership that the presence of Kamat at the Fatorda congress members is important as it would come as a morale booster for the party grass root workers.
Even before embracing the Congress party, Mickky had strongly opposed any alliance with parties such as the Goa Forward and the NCP, saying these parties have offered the alliance proposal only for their vested interests and not in the interest of the party.
The induction of new members on the Fatorda block is also expected to give indications whether the party is gearing up to contest the Fatorda seat. For, speculations are rife that the Congress will concede the Fatorda seat to the Goa Forward party Chief in the event the two parties stitch an electoral alliance.
The Fatorda block has been in the news recently after the block president Piedade Norohna and the party 2017 candidate Joseph Silva along with their supporters embracing the BJP on the plea that the Congress leaders had not been supportive to the grass root workers to take the party forward.
