PANAJI
The Department of Food and Drugs Administration has given a clean chit to the fish samples collected during visits to the Panaji and Margao fish markets with the tests revealing that there was no evidence of formalin being used to preserve the fish or artifical colour.
"None of the ten samples drawn by the FDA, which were subjected to analysis at the FDA laboratory at Bambolim revealed any adverse findings and were found
to be of satisfactory quality," the FDA said in a
statement.
The reports of the analysis have been sent to the Fisheries department as it was a joint exercise by the FDA and the Fisheries Department after the Fisheries minister impulsively decided that the department needs to check the quality of the fish being sold in the markets in the State.
Under the Food and Drugs Administration rules only ice can be used to preserve fish and not any chemicals or artificial agents.
