MAPUSA:
The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has shut five food establishments in Calangute after they were found to be operating in unhygienic premises.
The FDA had launched a campaign against biryani stalls and other food establishments operating in unhygienic conditions in the Calangute panchayat area since the last week.
The five food establishments were shut down on Tuesday as part of this action.
Besides, 38 containers containing food items were seized from these establishments with the assistance of the Panchayat. Food items like 300 kgs of biryani, 50 kgs of beef khima, 200 kgs of chicken gravy, and 200 kgs of roasted onion were later disposed off.
A vendor who was supplying raw chicken in unhygienic conditions was also caught and 100 kg of raw chicken was also seized and later disposed off.
This action was taken by FDA Officer Richard Noronha, Senior Food Safety Officer Rajaram Patil, Amit Mandrekar and a team.
