Acting on a viral video that showed a cow licking a shawarma setup in Siolim, a team from the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) inspected the premises on Wednesday and found it operating in extremely unhygienic conditions and without FDA approval.

The outlet was directed to shut down with immediate effect.

The FDA team also conducted a follow-up inspection in Aldona, where a tiffin operator—previously shut down in Parra for running an unhygienic and unauthorized tiffin supply business—was found to have restarted operations.

The new premises were also found functioning in unsanitary conditions without any FDA or local body approvals. An unlicensed notice under Section 31 of the FSSA Act, 2006, was issued, along with a spot inspection report, and the food prepared on-site was destroyed with the FBO’s consent.

Further, based on input regarding artificial ripening of mangoes at Peddem, Mapusa, two premises were found conducting ripening activities without approval. Four surveillance samples of Mallika mangoes were drawn due to suspected artificial ripening practices. Both units were served notices for violations.

These inspections were carried out by SFSO Rajaram Patil, FSO Amit Mandrekar, Lenin D’Sa, and Nousin Mulla, under the guidance of FDA Director Shweta Desai.
