The officials of the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) on Tuesday stopped the operations of a sweets manufacturing unit at St Cruz, Ponda, and seized sweets worth Rs 60,000.
Ramdev Modi has been booked under ‘Food Safety and Standard Act 2006' for allegedly preparing the sweets in unhygienic conditions. "He didn't even posses the license for preparing sweets. The place of preparation was unhygienic," Senior Food Inspector Rajeev Korde told The Goan.
During the raid, the FDA officials found 55 kgs of stored Mava and sweets, which were prepared. The unit was later sealed by the officials. "We will dispose the seized sweets and other items," Korde said.
Korde said Ramdev Modi used rusted utensils for preparing sweets. "We also saw waste water accumulated near the production area," he added.
Food Safety Officer Atul Dessai and FDA staff Uday Arsekar and Rama Gaonkar were present during the raid.
