Saying that fear and anxiety has gripped the consumers of PWD Water Supply in South Goa due to the state of the underground water pipes, Goacan has knocked the doors of the South Goa District Collector to intervene and create confidence in the minds of the consumers.
Goacan has requested the District Collector, South, in his capacity as Chairman of the South Goa District Consumer Protection Council, to convene an urgent meeting of the government departments concerned such as PWD, Health Services, Food & Drug Administration and Consumer Affairs to review the situation and record the standards required to be followed for delivery of safe drinking water.
“In view of the observation of World Consumer Rights Day on March 15 and World Water Day on March 22, your intervention will go a long way in creating confidence in the minds of the consumers in South Goa District,” Goacan Coordinator Roland Martins stated in his letter, while exuding confidence that the Collector will take the necessary action required in the matter.
Referring to the news item carried by The Goan on the safety of drinking water supplied by the PWD via the underground lines, Roland raised questions pertaining to the pipelines in other parts of Margao and Salcete taluka?
“What is the state of the underground water pipelines in other talukas of South Goa? GHRC had suo moto taken cognizance of the water supply by the PWD through the pipelines by issuing notices to PWD executive engineers.”
