The National Students Union of India (NSUI) Goa branch, the students wing of the Congress, has written to the president of India Ram Nath Kovind bringing to his notice the remarks made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday with regard to those suffering from dyslexia.
The letter sent by the NSUI’s Goa state president Ahraz Mulla reads, “On behalf of the individuals suffering with dyslexia, I would like to bring to your notice the insentive behaviour of the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi which can be evident in the link provided below.”

Mulla further states that an authority like the PM making these remarks “sends a very wrong message to the entire country and makes (people with dyslexia) subjects to be mocked.”
Mulla then states that the PM needs to apologize for his remarks as they were discriminatory against those suffering from dyslexia. “We strongly demand for an apology from the Prime Minister of India, because of which individuals with dyslexia have felt discriminated (against) by one of the highest authorities in the country,” reads the letter.
The Prime Minister, during a video conference of Smart India Hackathon 2019 on Saturday, took a dig at Congress national president Rahul Gandhi and mother Sonia Gandhi implying that Rahul Gandhi was suffering from dyslexia, a learning disability.
A copy of the NSUI’s letter has been sent to the United Nations Human Rights Office, the Director General of the National Human Rights Commission, India, and the Secretary General, CEO of the National Human Rights Commission, India.
A student from Dehradun had developed a program to help dyslexic children, and the Prime Minister then asked the student whether the program would work for those between 40 and 50 years of age.
When the student said yes, Modi then said that the mothers of such children would be very happy.
Many who were present laughed and applauded the remarks that were made by Modi.
