BELAGAVI: The annual feast of the Miraculous Cross atop Nandgad Hill, about 10 kms away from Khanapur, will be celebrated on December 29.
Bishop of Sindhudurg Dr Allwyn Baretto will be the main celebrant of the feast mass at 10.30 am.
Erected in the early 19th Century, the Cross was looked upon as a solace from the bubonic plague that had spread in the region. As per the church records, people prayed to God and vowed to erect this Cross and to everyone’s astonishment the plague disappeared. Since then thousands of people belonging to different faiths crowd the Cross from across Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa and place their petitions.
“With the blessings of God and people’s faith miraculously their petitions are answered,” Fr Vijay Mendith, parish priest of Immaculate Church, Nandgad said.
He also appealed to the people of Goa to visit the Cross on the feast day on Thursday.
