In the fortnight just gone by, Bardez has seen a flurry of activity of inaugurations and foundation stone-laying ceremonies.
With the election code of conduct snapping at their heels, ministers and ruling party MLAs have been making a sprint to breast the development tape.
From Mapusa to Aldona and from Tivim to Calangute, a series of projects have either been launched or new projects have been started.
On Tuesday, Central Ayush Minister and North Goa MP Shripad Naik laid the foundation stone for a community hall in Assonora in the presence of Tivim MLA Kiran Kandolkar. The project is being constructed under the MPLAD funds.
On the same day, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza inaugurated a new water tank at Bastora in Aldona constituency in the presence of Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo.
Not to be outdone, Deputy Chief Minister and Mapusa MLA Francis D’Souza launched the street light illumination project at Khorlim junction, Mapusa on Tuesday. As per the plan, five high mast lamps will be erected in each of the 20 wards in Mapusa in the next 15 days. The illumination project has been undertaken under the aegis of GSUDA where the Mapusa MLA is the chairman.
On December 31, Ticlo had laid the foundation stone for beautification works at Panarim and a retaining wall in Santarxette in Aldona. The estimated cost of both the projects amounts to Rs 11 lakh.
Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza inaugurated the Aldona Primary Health Centre on December 28, which has been renovated by GSIDC at a cost of Rs 1.25 crore.
Calangute MLA Michael Lobo inaugurated a renovated crematorium in Arpora on December 30, and then again commissioned a new transformer at Sinquerim the next day.
Prior to that, Power Minister Milind Naik had laid the foundation stone to upgrade the Candolim sub-station on December 28, in the presence of the Calangute MLA.
On December 23, D’Souza inaugurated the beautification of Bodgeshwar temple premises in Mapusa. The temple beautification works was taken up by GSUDA at a cost of Rs 90 lakh.
Similarly, several projects were launched in neighbouring constituencies of Saligao and Siolim.
