In a press release, Shirodkar stated that the BJP had promised the Mayem villagers of a permanent solution in the matter. “However, the government has miserably failed in keeping up to its promise. Now, whatever they have given to the people is a mere eyewash,” he said.
“The BJP government in Goa has again proved itself a major failure and U-turn specialist by issuing provisional sanads under the Goa (abolition of Proprietorship, Titles and Grants of Land) Act, 2014 to the Mayem villagers, who are fighting for the last so many years for their rights.”
According to Adv Shirodkar, the provisional sanads issued by the Government will serve no purpose to the villagers, as they still need to take permissions from the government to repair their houses.
“We stand by the Mayem villagers in their fight, as we do not consider the issue of Mayem villagers as merely land ownership issues but issue of self-respect,” Shirodkar added.
