Feeder line damage plunges Panaji in darkness at dusk

PANAJI

Just as the day was fading into the night at dusk, almost the entire capital city plunged into darkness due to a power outage caused by damage to the main 33KV feeder line between the sub-stations at Kadamba Plateau and Altinho on Tuesday.

Engineers, line helpers, and other electricity department staff were kept on their toes trying to locate the fault and restore power as the blackout persisted for 30-40 minutes.

Assistant Engineer Milind Desai said the damage to the feeder line was caused at a large private construction site at EDC Patto Plaza, and power was restored by tapping the second line that feeds Panaji.

Desai said work at the construction site by the private party damaged (punctured) the 33KV underground cable at Patto.

There was a disruption in power supply to parts of Taleigao as well after the feeder line there was also damaged near the Merces junction, where work on the concrete road is being carried out.

By 9 pm, however, the power supply situation in both Panaji and Taleigao was restored by making alternate arrangements and switching feeders, even as work to repair the punctures to the 33KV feeder cables continued, Desai said.
