An SSCE certificate holder from Ponda who invented a programmable robot will now get support from the State government.
The programmable feeding robot named ‘MaaRobot’ helps people using finger touch operating functions, thereby functioning as a caretaker for individuals with special needs and those who are bedridden.
For Bipin Kadam, it was a personal incentive to invent the ‘MaaRobot’ (Mother Robot) as it feeds and takes care of his 15-year-old specially-abled daughter. Kadam says the robot which he has developed can now feed his daughter any dish that is kept in different containers.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant met Bipin about two months ago during an exhibition and was impressed with his innovation. Sawant then directed the Goa State Innovative Council officers to take cognizance of his skills.
Now, Kadam’s innovative idea will be registered in his name and he will get assistance to make his ‘MaaRobot’ for other users. Besides, he will be able to collaborate with startups to make his product commercial.
"I have been contacted by officials from GSIC. Hopefully, things should go in the right direction,” Kadam told The Goan.
When contacted, GSIC Project Officer Sudeep Faldesai confirmed that Kadam’s project will be considered by the GSIC under the prototype scheme.
Incidentally, Kadam is neither an engineer nor a person from an affluent family. He lives in a single-room tenement with his family, comprising his ailing wife, their specially-abled daughter and a son.
He has 20 years of experience under his belt in the manufacturing sector, where he has worked on different types of engineering tools and machines. The Goan had reported about Kadam’s project last year.
