Females outnumbered their male counterparts in casting their votes for the election to the Cuncolim Municipal Council as well as the Navelim Zilla Panchayat by-poll on Saturday.
Take note, women led over men not just by a few votes, but by around 1,000 votes in both the Municipal area as well as in Navelim.
Take the case of the Navelim ZP by-poll. While a total of 8,953 voters came out to cast their vote on Saturday, women voters comprised around 4,993 voters as compared to around 3,960 males, a difference of around 1,000 votes.
This has only thrown up questions as to who will benefit by the higher women turn out “ the two women contestants in the fray, Pratima Coutinho (Congress) and Matilda D’Silva (AAP) or the sitting Independent candidate, Cipru Cardozo or BJP’s Satyavijai Naik.
Similarly, for the Cuncolim ZP body, women outnumbered men on the polling day as they came out in large numbers to exercise their franchise.
Statistics revealed that of the total 11,104 voters who exercised their franchise for the CMC polls, around 6,057 voters turned out to be women as against 5,047 males, a clear 1,000 voter difference.
