Alleging that scams and lawlessness have become the hallmark of the BJP government in Goa, Aldona Congress MLA Carlos Ferreira on Friday questioned how a man allegedly duped into believing he had been appointed Excise Commissioner managed to take charge of the post using a fake appointment letter.
Ferreira linked the incident to the continuing cash-for-jobs scam and demanded to know whether the police would prosecute influential persons allegedly involved in the racket or allow them to escape accountability. “The only thing we hear are newer and newer levels of scams being propagated during the rule of the present BJP government. This is nothing but scams after scams,” Ferreira said, questioning whether such incidents had occurred during Congress rule.
According to Ferreira, the man had allegedly paid Rs 27 lakh to one Sankhwalkar, who purportedly promised him government jobs over several years before issuing him an appointment letter for the post of Excise Commissioner.
Ferreira said Sankhwalkar had allegedly been in contact with the man since 2019, promising him posts ranging from Awal Karkun and mamlatdar to assistant commissioner before offering him the top excise post.
Questioning how the man expected to become commissioner without applying or appearing for an examination, Ferreira also alleged that the man’s sister was promised an accountant’s job in the Public Works Department for Rs 25 lakh.
