Ardent tiatr lovers will get a rare opportunity to watch four popular tiatrs of the 60s and 70s written and directed by stalwarts of Konkani tiatr stage artists of yesteryears at the Festival of Classic Tiatrs organised by the 125th Anniversary of Tiatr Celebrations Committee.

The four classic tiatrs – Jivit Ek Sopon, Ghorabo, Ghorachem Sukh and Ekuch Rosto, written and directed by late Prem Kumar, late Nelson Afonso, late Remmie Colaco and late M Boyer respectively, will be showcased on stage simultaneously at all the four venues, Kala Academy, Panaji; Ravindra Bhavan, Margao; Ravindra Bhavan, Curchorem and Ravindra Bhavan, Vasco between February 25 and March 1.

Addressing the media, the four directors, Tomazinho Cardozo (Ekuch Rosto), William Fernandes (Ghorachem Sukh), Michael Gracias (Ghorabo) and Agnel de Borim (Jivit Ek Sopon) said that late Remy Colaco, late M Boyer, late Nelson Afonso and late Prem Kumar had been the tallest of the directors of yesteryears and it would be their endeavour to direct the tiatrs that these four artistes had written and directed the masterpieces.

On the challenges faced by them in directing the tiatrs, Michael said the directors had to first find out what was in the mind of the four great tiatr directors before they set their mind on directing their tiatr, while Tomazinho added ‘as directors, we had to create the atmosphere prevailing in the society then as these four tiatrs revolve around social issues’.

To another query, Tomazinho, who is the Chairman of the 125th Anniversary of Tiatr Celebration Committee, said the Festival of Classic Tiatrs is being organised as part of the tiatrs 125th anniversary celebrations.

The four directors appealed to tiatr lovers to watch the four classic tiatrs, saying entry to the auditoriums will be free. Tomazinho, however, said that complimentary season passes will be available at the venues from February 23 and general sitting will be on first come first serve basis.

The Festival of Classic Tiatrs will be inaugurated on February 25 at 7 pm at the Open Air theatre of Kala Academy at the hands of noted tiatr writer and director Roseferns in the presence of Art and Culture Director Gurudas Pilarnekar.
