Former MPDA chairman Krishna Daji Salkar on Saturday illuminated various Ganesh Visarjan sites at Baina and Vaddem in Vasco, while also setting up stalls at Visarjan sites to collect the Nirmalya so that flowers and other items placed on Ganesh idols are not disposed in water bodies during immersion ceremonies.
"This year in an effort to provide better facilities for Vascokars and people from neighbouring areas during Ganesh Visarjan, we undertook beach cleaning and also lit up the entire area, giving it a very festive look,” said Salkar.
“Baina Beach and Kharewada beach have been well lit with good focus and LED lights, so that people do not have to do their pooja in darkness.”
"We will also have a Nirmalya collection at Baina Beach, Kharewada and New Vaddem lake, as a small effort to keep our beaches and lakes clean.”
Salkar said the Nirmalya will be sent to a vermi-compost plant near MES College, where it would be converted into manure within 15 days and sent back to them, to be utilised by farmers.
Salkar also appealed authorities to repair roads in Vasco.
“Roads in and around Vasco are full of potholes and in some places, sewage chambers are well above the road surface. We request the PWD to repair these potholed roads before the 5-day Ganesh Visarjan, so that people are not put to inconvenience," said Salkar.
