MARGAO: Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai inaugurated the Margao Carnival festivities organised by ‘We For Fatorda’ at the Opinion Poll Square on Saturday. The entire square route wore a festive and colourful look.
Addressing the Carnival revelers on Saturday after inaugurating the festivities, the TCP Minister stressed the need to protect Goemkarponn. Saying that Carnival festival is an integral part of Goa’s unique and composite culture, Sardesai said that an attempt has been made to revive the Carnival on the streets in the commercial capital after a gap of 25 years. “While we have sought to revive the Carnival street dance, we have not forgotten the traditional Intruz,” he said.
The government sponsored floats parade will take place along the Opinion Poll Square on Sunday evening at 4 pm. This parade will be followed by a Konkani programme featuring Goa’s nightingale Lorna.
