The decision has been taken by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, nearly seven years after NIT was started in Goa in 2010.
“As far as seats for NIT Goa are concerned, we had put a condition that 50% reservation should be for locals, wherein they had included Union Territories also. We had asked the centre to provide at least 40% sub-quota only restricted to Goa and rest 10 per cent to the UTs,” said Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. “They have agreed to it. We will soon take a cabinet decision soon to provide land to NIT,” he informed.
Presently NIT Goa is operating from GEC Complex, Farmagudi and land admeasuring 4,56,767 sq mts has already been identified in Cuncolim for setting it up.
Sources informed that the remaining 10% quota for UTs, if not filled, will come to Goa. “We have got 40% seats reserved in NIT and 10% for UTs. If seats remain in the 10% given to them, it will come back.”
