Finally, beef supply resumes from Karnataka

MARGAO
Off the stalls for many days, beef was finally back in Gandhi market and SGPDA retail fish market, with the traders managing to get limited quantities of the meat from across the border in Karnataka.

While cold storage owners have been getting the supplies from Delhi for over a week now, the beef traders at the Gandhi market started receving the red meat from Karnataka since three days.

In fact, the stalls at the Gandhi market meat complex came alive with the red meat available in abundance for sale.

A trader, Mohammed Bepari, told The Goan that it’s now 2-3 days since beef supply has resumed in the state from Karnataka. He thanked the government headed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for supporting the traders in getting the meat during the festive Christmas season and hoped that the government will work out a permanent solution to the issue.

“Though we could not bring the beef supplies prior to the passage of the Bill passed by the Karnataka Assembly, somehow we have received the meat from Karnataka in the last three days. The present supplies will not help meet the total requirements, but will at least help mitigate the hardships faced by the consumers during the festive season", Mohammed said.

He said the traders are pinning hopes on the Chief Minister to address the issue of beef supply to Goa not only during the festival season but a permanent solution keeping in mind the interests of the traders and the consumers.
