Stating that the PWD has taken up hot-mixing of Calangute roads at an estimated cost of Rs 2.88 crore, North Goa Planning and Development Authority (NGPDA) Chairman and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo paid an unusually rare tribute to Calangute panchayat for its assistance.

A stretch of 3.5 km long road from Government Primary School to Bodkavod-Calangute has been taken up for hot-mixing, giving much relief to people of the constituency.

“We are duty bound to give good infrastructure to the people of Calangute, Baga, Candolim and Sinquerim. The people from this coastal belt provide a lion’s share of revenue to the government,” said NGPDA Chairman and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo.

He said once hot-mixed, the road will give people of Calangute a second option for traveling.

In a rare acknowledgement to the Calangute panchayat, which is headed by his former friend turned arch-rival Joseph Sequeira, Lobo thanked the Calangute Panchayat for widening the stretch.

“We had widened this road the last time with the help of the Calangute Panchayat. I thank the panchayat for helping in widening the road,” he said.

Other roads in Calangute will also be taken up for hot-mixing as soon as the sewerage works are completed, he added.

He promised to bring in more development along the Calangute-Baga-Candolim-Sinquerim belt with government help.

“Most sewerage works behind the Calangute church are complete and hot-mixing of the road will be taken up very soon in that area too,” the MLA said.
