OLD GOA

After completing all the legal formalities under the Goa Panchayat Raj Act, the Se Old Goa panchayat finally issued a demolition order to the owner of the controversial structure, on Friday.

The demolition order was issued by the panchayat secretary under Section 66 sub Section 4 of The Goa Panchayat Raj Act, 1994 in which the owner of the structure Sumermal Jain of Corvus Urban Infrastructures LLP, has been given 15 days to demolish the same.

In event of the failure of the owner to demolish the structure within 15 days, the order states that “the panchayat shall demolish the same on any day after expiry of the aforesaid period without any intimation and expenditure incurred shall be recovered from you as tax imposed under this act.”

The panchayat has sent the demolition order, through registered AD, to the owner Sumermal Jain of Corvus Urban Infrastructures LLP.

Alternately, the panchayat secretary Ashish Naik along with the staff also pasted the order at the construction site.

The Old Goa panchayat at its fortnightly meeting on Tuesday had unanimously resolved to issue demolition order to the controversial structure which has come up within heritage precincts of the St Cajetan Church.

Earlier, the panchayat had also issued a show-cause notice to the owner, which, however, returned stating that the owner had changed address. The panchayat, later, found out two more addresses of the owner.

In light of the development, Panchayat Secretary Ashish Naik and his staff had pasted the show-cause notice at the construction site.
