“Not only are the beneficiaries’ Aadhaar numbers, residential addresses, bank account numbers, bank branch details published on GEL website, but also the social groupings including caste and tribal affiliation, marital status, have been placed in the public domain,” Kerkar stated.
Kerkar further said that while 30,000 people are beneficiaries of Krishi Aadhar of Department of Agriculture, around 1.9 lakh women are beneficiaries of the State government’s flagship scheme Griha Aadhar and 50,000 are beneficiaries of the popular Laadli Laxmi scheme, which are managed by the Department of Women and Child Development.
Following a news report, which appeared in a local Marathi daily newspaper ‘Goan Varta,’ the two departments have withdrawn the information from public domain.
She pointed out that that following reports of leaking of crucial Aadhaar information in states such as Jharkhand in the month of March, an FIR was registered against those involved.
“While in Jharkhand, the chief executive of Unique Identification Authority of India approached the state government and ordered it to list those involved; however, in Goa, the entire episode has been systematically covered up despite it being a serious offence committed by public servants,” Kerkar lashed out.
