Officials from the National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management presented the draft coastal management plan for the state of Goa to the Chief Minister and MLAs
after an initial discussion on the issue.
The plan prepared by the NCSCM will replace the more than two-decade old CZMP last drafted in 1996 under the then CRZ 1991 regulations and is also expected to be notified to receive suggestions and objections from the public.
Emerging from a meeting Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said that after the initial presentation, each taluka would be examined in detail by the MLAs and finally a decision on its approval can be taken.
The plan is to be notified and approved finally by the GCZMA before it becomes the law of the land.
Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai said he was afraid that if any mistake creeps into the plan it will ensure that it will remain on the books for many years and could have serious implications for the state.
“This is a very far-reaching document where planning is concerned. We have found some anomalies. MLAs should get time to study the plan. We want to give everyone enough time. At the same time development in Goa is also important. We cannot stop development because of errors which could have happened,” Sardesai said.
