MARGAO
Panic broke out on Station Road in Margao late Tuesday evening after a fire broke out in a fruit shop located opposite a footwear showroom.
The fire caused worry among local traders and residents, as all the shops in the area are part of the same building. There were fears that the fire could spread, especially since one nearby shop had nylon material.
Fortunately, the Margao fire brigade reached the spot on time and brought the fire under control.
Fire Officer Gill D’Souza said the fire started in the fruit shop and spread to the mezzanine floor, where plastic items were stored. He said the heat reached the neighbouring shops, but they did not suffer much damage.
The exact cause of the fire is still being investigated.
