A house was gutted in a fire at Khoirut, Aldona, on Wednesday morning while the family was away. No one was injured, but household belongings were destroyed.
Homeowner Sapna Gaude said she had lit a lamp before leaving for work. She returned about two hours later to find smoke coming from the house and alerted neighbours.
By the time help arrived, most items in one room had been damaged.
Fire Brigade Officer Sahid M Khan said the department received a call at around 9.45 am and responded quickly. The fire was brought under control and confined to a single room.
Initial estimates put the loss at over Rs 1 lakh, mainly household and electrical items.
Family member Dilip Redkar said his sister’s room was completely damaged and suspected the fire may have started from the oil lamp. Another member, Dipali Redkar, said they tried to put out the fire and switched off the power supply before seeking help.
The fire destroyed furniture, clothes, appliances, utensils, cash and documents. The family has estimated the total loss at over Rs 2 lakh.
