VALPOI
By-elections have been announced for one ward each in the Thane and Pisurle village panchayats in Sattari taluka, with polling scheduled for May 10.
New panch members will be elected in both wards, although there is a strong possibility that candidates may be chosen unopposed.
Ward No. 1 in Thane fell vacant after Nilesh Parwar resigned following his election to the Zilla Panchayat from the Keri constituency on a BJP ticket.
He had earlier been elected unopposed as a panch.
Similarly, Ward No. 7 in Pisurle became vacant after Namdev Chari stepped down upon his election to the Zilla Panchayat from the Honda constituency.
The election process will begin on 2 May under the supervision of the Block Development Office in Valpoi, covering nomination filing, scrutiny, withdrawals, and the final candidate list.
With about a year left for the next panchayat elections, efforts are under way to ensure consensus candidates and avoid contests. The by-elections have attracted local attention and are seen as significant ahead of the upcoming polls.
