Fire engulfs unused PWD quarters at Borda

An unused PWD quarters located at Borda was engulfed in a major fire on Friday evening, destroying property around Rs 50,000.

The fire incident was reported to the Margao fire brigade at around 4.20 pm on Friday when locals spotted the unused quarters on fire.

Margao Fire Officer Gill D’Souza informed that the fire tender immediately rushed to Borda where they found the quarter located on the top floor of the building engulfed by fire.

Rafters, ribs and Mangalore roof tiles were all damaged in the fire incident.

To a question, Gill said the cause of the fire remains unknown for the moment. He said the fire brigade used two water tenders to bring the fire under control. “The fire brigade has saved property worth around Rs 2 lakh,” he added.
