Fire, fallen trees keep Canacona fire dept on their toes on Sunday

Canacona fire personnel were kept busy attending to three incidents of fallen trees, and a house gutted by fire in different parts of Canacona on Sunday. According to sources, a call was received at 4.45 am stating that a house caught fire at Shristhal. The cause of the fire was a short-circuit and TV, refrigerator and furniture were destroyed before fire personnel stopped further damage. The loss is estimated to be Rs 50 lakh.
In 3 different tree felling incidents, electricity alignments were reportedly damaged, before fire services personnel rushed to remove the trees, helping the electricity staff to restore the power services.
At Rajbag-Tarir, a coconut tree fell on the road bringing down electricity alignments and disrupting power supply. Another tree fell on the electricity alignment bringing it down at Vagon-Khola forcing residents to go without power for most of the day on Sunday, while a jackfruit tree fell and snapped electricity alignments at Nanem-Gaondongrim, where power supply was restored later in the day, informed sources.
