Fire incident at Mapusa flat

MAPUSA: Property worth Rs 2.5 lakh was destroyed in a fire at a flat in Mapusa late Friday night.

The fire started in a room of the flat owned by Subhash Jeta, located on the second floor of Junta Quarters, Angod, Mapusa, fire officials informed.

Since the owner was not in the premises at the time of the incident, neighbours alerted the Mapusa fire station at around 8.50 pm.

The fire officials broke open the door of the flat and doused the flames.

The bedroom was completely destroyed in the fire even as fire officials prevented the fire from spreading to the other rooms. Officials said bed, clothes, cash, cell phones, electrical fixtures, documents, TV set, etc, were destroyed in the fire. Fire officials estimated the damages to be around Rs 2.5 lakh.

The cause of fire was yet to be ascertained.

Fire officers S K Naik, Namdev Tari, Mahadev Raut, H Mapari, U Mandrekar R Naik and others took part in the fire fighting operation.
