First charter of season arrives today

VASCO
After struggling amid the Covid pandemic, tourism in the State is set to get a major boost with the first charter flight with international tourists to arrive in the State on

Wednesday morning.

According to Goa Airport Director Gagan Malik, the first charter flight, Air Astana, is arriving from Almaty

in Kazakhstan.

“An Air Astana flight will arrive from Almaty bringing in 159 passengers. The flight will arrive at around 7 am on Wednesday. We have even arranged a small ceremony to welcome the tourists of the first charter flight in the arrival hall of the Goa Airport,” said Malik.

At a time when the charter season was in doubt due to the surge of Omicron cases worldwide, the arrival of this charter may offer some solace to the local stakeholders.

Shack and hotel operators are hoping more charters will arrive to bail them out.
