Churchill Brothers scored a fluent 3-0 win over Guardian Angel Sports Club in the Goa Football Association Goa Professional League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Tuesday.

The win took the Varca team on top of the league table with 13 points while Guardian Angel remain with one point.

Red Machines’ Clencio Pinto scored a goal in either half while Lalawmpuia got his name on the score sheet with just 10 minutes left on the clock. The Varca-based team started the game on the front foot and should have taken the lead in the opening quarter when Clencio found Lalawmpuia, but the latter’s shot was saved by GASC keeper Oswin Rodrigues.

Oswin was in thick of action throughout as then he denied Preston with a vital interception before brilliantly saving Clencio’s shot on goal.

At the half hour mark, Lalawmpuia played a cross in the box to Trijoy but the latter could not keep his header in the frame. Guardian Angel SC defence was finally broken in the 36th minute when Lalawmpuia played a long pass in the danger area to Clencio, where this time he didn’t make any mistake to head past Oswin.

Soon after the goal Guardian Angel SC made a tactical change by changing the keeper bringing on Shivam Pednekar in goal.

Churchill Brothers SC doubled the account in the 55th minute where Trijoy’s low cross was brilliantly met by Clencio. Churchill Brothers scored their third in the 83rd minute. Kamran F played a through pass to Lalawmpuia, whose well struck shot had no answer from the rival keeper.
