The first life size standalone bronze statue in the world of St Thomas will be unveiled at the San Thome Museum, Back in time, at Varca on Sunday.
Conceptualised, designed and executed by Thomas Antonio da Costa, the St Thomas bronze statue will be blessed by the Bishop of Sindhudurg Alwyn Barreto on January 19, coinciding with the 5th anniversary of San Thome Museum.
Addressing the media, Thomas Costa said the San Thomas is the only museum that has touched every aspect of the technical revolution that started in 1880 AD. “We are proud to say that many elderly guests who visit the museum are thrilled to find the long lost life partners safely showcased at the Back in Time Museum. The mechanical calculators, the typewriters, the cameras, time keepers, postal weights which were professionally used by our elders were the second best friend/partners after their spouses. Ironically, in today’s world, the Smartphone is the first friend/partner and then comes the husband or wife’, he said.
The curator has taken pain to touch every aspect of evolution of human life through various ages to today’s plastic age (environment destructive age) via time machines, recorded music, barter system to weights, Morse code to wireless communications, reels-videocassette-laserdisc-Blue ray movies, pioneer sewing machines, calculus, typewriters- Microsoft word and Excel, still photography-slide show in pixels, emergency artificial lighting-LEDs makes this a growing education hub to visit schools and colleges.
