The first luxury cruise liner for the ongoing tourism season, M V Azamara Journey, called at Mormugao Port Trust bringing 648 high-end guests and 401 crew members.
Tourism minister Dilip Parulekar, MPT chairman G P Rai, along with several other officials, welcomed the guests, from countries like US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, Norway, Austria and Brazil.
The guests were then taken for separate sight-seeing trips like spice gardens, heritage sites, beaches and also to local markets.
MPT is expected to receive 40 cruise liners this year as compared to 29 last season. Cruise tourism augurs well for the local economy as it provides active employment and economic engagement for local people.
