According to sources, the migrant fishermen have continued selling fish by the roadside at Zorint-Sancoale, even though four migrant fishermen and a 4-year-old girl were injured after a vehicle rammed into them at the same spot. Shortly after the accident, Sancoale Sarpanch Girish Pillai had conducted an inspection and had told the migrants to clear the area with immediate effect. The migrants had asked for some time to clear the shanties. "We have again conducted an inspection and now we are more strict as we do not want any further accidents on this stretch of road. If they are found selling fish or do not vacate the area within a week, we will take help of the police and clear the site," Girish Pillai had earlier told The Goan.
When contacted, Pillai said he has already written a letter to Verna Police asking for help to clear the area immediately.
When contacted, Verna PI Uday Parab confirmed having receiving the sarpanch's letter. "We will soon take action in the matter," said PI Parab.
