The incident occurred at around 3.10 am when fish merchant Krishnanand Gaonkar, a resident of Amrutnagar was heading to the wholesale fish market. He stopped his car minutes later after a young man asked for a lift, assuming that he was a known person. No sooner Gaonkar made a halt, the miscreant came towards him under the guise of asking him the address of the locality, placed a
knife at his neck. The second accused, who was hiding around, made his entry into the car and lifted away the bag containing the cash of Rs 2.10 lakh.
The victim was carrying the cash in order to make payments for a trawler owner.
Gaonkar along with another fish agent Pravin Naik made their presence felt at the Margao police station at around 3.30 am to lodge their complaint.
When The Goan contacted Margao PI C L Patil to shed light on the incident, he said the Margao police are investigating the matter. "We are trying to find out whether a person known to the victim is involved in the incident. The investigation is on," PI Patil said.
The victim was carrying the cash in order to make payments for a trawler owner.
