South Goa Planning and Development Authority’s condition that vehicular parking will be strictly prohibited in the wholesale fish market after 10 am seemed to have been flouted with impunity.

A visit to the wholesale fish market on Wednesday revealed that over a dozen fish transporting trucks were found parked inside in violation of the PDA condition. That around a dozen insulated vehicles, including small jeeps, were parked all along the wholesale market road from Hotel La Grace is another thing since the road falls in the domain of other concerned authorities.

While granting NOC to carry out the wholesale fish trade in the wholesale fish market, PDA Member Secretary Ashok Kumar had categorically pointed out in the NOC that the fish traders are strictly forbidden from parking their vehicles light/heavy at

the SGPDA wholesale fish market after the business hours after 10 am.

It’s now a fortnight since the SGPDA had granted NOC to the wholesale fish traders along with other fishing associations such as the boat owners and the traditional fishermen to assemble and conduct business at the wholesale fish market subject to conditions, including the condition that vehicular parking inside the market will be strictly forbidden after business hours

at 10 am.

The PDA had specifically imposed the condition following reports that unsold fish stacked in these vehicles is being sold the next day.

Sources said a PDA official, who saw the fleet of insulated fish vehicles parked in the wholesale fish market on Tuesday evening, is believed to have brought the situation to the PDA higher ups for

action.

When The Goan called up SGPDA Member Secretary, Ashok Kumar to throw light on the violation of the NOC by the fish traders, he said he would depute PDA officials to check the ground reality before mulling action against the trucks.

The PDA member secretary made it categorical clear that the PDA will be forced to initiate action, including action to revoke the NOC issued to

the wholesale fish traders, if they are found leaving behind the insulated vehicles in the market.

Ashok Kumar reminded that the PDA had adopted the resolution to bar vehicular parking inside the wholesale fish market after business hours following complaints that vehicles parked inside the market are used to store unsold fish, which is opened for sale the following day.

Meanwhile, around a dozen insulated trucks were found parked along the wholesale fish market, right from La Grace hotel to the wholesale fish market. It is not clear whether the parking of fish transporting vehicles are permitted by the concerned authorities, including the RTO and the Fatorda police, which had in the past reigned against a Goan vendor for selling fruits in his private alongside the road near the Ravindra Bhavan.
