Fishing trawler worker done to death at Cutbona

MARGAO

In a gruesome killing at the Cutbona fishing jetty, a migrant labourer was done to death on a fishing vessel by two other labourers late Friday night.

The two alleged accused from Odisha Santosh Bagh and Ganeshwar Bagh, who tried to flee Cutbona jetty after the murder last night, were nabbed by alert police constables at Cumbeabhatt-Velim.

The body of deceased Pratap Singh, a native of Chhattisgarh, was found lying in a pool of blood on the fishing vessel after the duo slit his throat with a knife.

Police said the victim and the two accused had a fight when they were consuming alcohol. The fight later ended in the murder of Pratap when they all went aboard the vessel for dinner.

The Cuncolim police were intimated of the murder at around 11 pm and a hunt to nab the accused persons yielded no result. “After we collected information that around six labourers, five khalashis and the vessel tandel were on board the vessel, we deputed policemen at the railway station as well as the bus stand to prevent the two accused from fleeing the state,” PI Sudesh Naik informed.

The duo was nabbed at Cumbeabhatt-Velim by police control van (PCR) constables Jitesh Gaonkar, Satyawan Velip and Mohandas Pagi, when they were moving suspiciously.

“After interrogation, the duo confessed to the crime. They admitted they had slit Pratap’s throat with a knife,” PI Sudesh added. Further investigations are on.
