MARGAO
A couple of shops, including a restaurant and pharmacy had to face the brunt of the overnight rains when the flood waters along with sewage entered their establishments on early Thursday morning.
By noon, a delegation of shopkeepers, including a restaurant and a pharmacy called on the Margao Municipal Chairperson Damu Shirodkar to draw his attention to the incident and with a plea to clean up the clogged drains at the earliest.
Though the cluster of shops has been facing the problem of sewage every year, the delegation underscored the need to desilt and open the drains to ensure the smooth flow of the rain water.
One of the shopkeepers told the media that it was indeed sad and shocking that the shops located right adjoining the Margao Municipal building had to face the brunt of the flood water entering their establishments.
The MMC chief later drafted the sanitary inspector Viraj Arabekar and an engineer to the site to take stock of the situation and to take corrective measures to ensure the incident does not recur when the monsoon hits the State later this month.
