The returning officer of Mormugao Taluka has expressed concern over the flooded SAG ground at Bhute-Bhat in Vasco, where counting of votes to the panchayat elections will take place at the adjacent badminton court on Tuesday from 8 am onwards.
“The ground is full of rainwater and it could create some problem for police officials and supporters of candidates. Besides, we also anticipate heavy showers in the morning which could further hinder the counting process,” said Returning Officer and Mormugao Mamlatdar Satish Prabhu.
“We will take seven wards for counting at a time, and we hope to finish the counting process by noon and declare the results,” Prabhu said.
“However, we anticipate re-counting in some wards of Chicolna-Bogmalo, Cansaulim and Chicalim Panchayat, due to which counting could be delayed added Prabhu.
The counting of Sancoale Panchayat will take place on July 2, as one ward of the panchayat will go to poll on July 1.
When asked if the police was geared to tackle any problem during the counting process, Mormugao DySP Laurence D’ Souza said, “We have enough police force from Mormugao, Vasco, Dabolim and Verna to take care of any law and order situation.”
