The election flying squad on Thursday descended at Curtorim to verify reports that former Sarpanch Rui Menezes was carrying money in the dickey of his two-wheeler.
The cash attached by the flying squad was later released after Rui produced the receipt of the money that was withdrawn by him from the local bank. He also produced before the flying squad in-charge an invitation of his son’s Holy Confirmation on Sunday.
The flying squad along with the Maina Curtorim police team headed by PI Mohan Gawde descended at the Curtorim Panchayat ghar to verify the complaint. When Rui, a panch member, came out from the Panchayat ghar, the flying squad conducted a search and found the cash in the two-wheeler’s dickey.
While the cash was attached, Rui insisted that he had withdrawn the cash from the local bank because of the Holy Confirmation of his son scheduled for Sunday. He produced the documents pertaining to the withdrawal of the cash and also a copy of the invitation before the flying squad, after which the cash, as well as the two-wheeler, was released by the in-charge.
