Opens 4.5-km, four-lane Bicholim bypass at Vhalshi

Stating that the path of modern development has opened up for Goa, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the focus is on strengthening infrastructure while promoting green industries to increase investment.
Addressing a gathering after inaugurating the new 4.5 km 4-lane Bicholim bypass at Vhalshi-Bicholim built at a cost of Rs 83.70 crore, the Chief Minister also stated that work on the Assonora-Mulgao bypass and the Latambarcem Industrial Colony to Airport road will be taken up soon.
Those present on the occasion included Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye, Mayem MLA Premendra Shet, Bicholim Municipal Council President Kundan Palkari, Deputy Collector Ramesh Gawkar, Deepa Pala, Principal Chief Engineer Uttam Parsekar and other officials.
Speaking further, Sawant stated that with increasing investment in the State, many are interested in medical, educational and rural tourism. “We have many projects lined up and the government is keen to provide good facilities,” said Sawant.
Stating that the government is keen to enhance road, rail and airport connectivity to attract investments in the State and to generate employment and other opportunities, the Chief Minister appealed to people to refrain from opposing such projects.
Turning his attention to garbage being dumped along highways in many places in the State, Sawant said the government is planning to take strict action in the matter. He also advised people to stop encroaching on government land and indulging in illegal constructions.
Stating that Bicholim taluka is witnessing development through various means, Sawant said work on the new bus station and fire brigade building will be expedited, while the Bicholim Municipal building project will be completed within two years.
Bicholim MLA Dr Shetye lauded the Chief Minister for promoting development in Bicholim taluka and said the new Bicholim bypass would resolve the problem of traffic congestion in the town.
Mayem MLA Premendra Shet said the new bypass would boost development in the taluka. On the occasion, the Chief Minister felicitated engineers and contractors involved in the construction of the Bicholim bypass.
