Focus on traditional floats at Margao Carnival parade

MARGAO:

The Margao Carnival Committee has cautioned that the screening committee, constituted by the Committee for the Margao float parade scheduled in the commercial capital on March 2, will be strict in allowing only traditional floats to participate in the parade.

Addressing the media after a meeting of the Carnival committee, Margao Municipal chairperson Damu Shirodkar and president of the Margao Carnival Committee, MMC Councillor Camilo Barretto, said the committee will focus on the participation of traditional floats in the parade.

The MMC Chairperson stated that the government has restricted the float parade category to the traditional category. “We want local artists to showcase their talents at the upcoming Carnival festival by presenting floats in the traditional category. We are in the process of constituting the screening panel, which will make decisions regarding the participation of floats in the parade,” Damu said.

Barretto added that the committee will spread awareness of the upcoming Carnival float parade by organising programmes in the adjoining villages of Salcete.
