Fomento says its motto is not to create problem, the plant is really choked

MARGAO

Clearing misconceptions in the minds of the people that Fomento is not accepting even segregated waste at the waste treatment plant, Fomento officials said the plant will accept segregated waste as and when the mound of waste rejects stacked inside the plant are lifted away by the Margao Municipal Council.

Fomento official Sudin Pai Raiturkar said the decision not to accept all types of waste was taken since the waste treatment plant is literally choked with waste rejects and there’s no space to accept anything further. “Our motto is not to create any problem for anyone. We are not doing this on purpose. The plant is choked with waste rejects as the MMC failed to lift the same during the last 20 days after Sonsodo was engulfed in a major fire,” Sudin said.

He said that he made it amply clear to the Deputy Chief Minister Vijai Sardesai as well as the MMC officials that the plant will accept segregated waste as and when the rejects stacked inside are lifted away. He further clarified that the landfill site created by Fomento is only meant for inert waste and not for plastics or waste rejects generated during segregation. “We request the MMC to lift away the waste rejects from the plant before handing over segregated waste,” Sudin said, asserting that the segregated waste from the MMC will be accepted only after the plant is cleared of the mound of waste rejects.
