Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has appealed to Goans not to take the law into their hands, as such incidents could go viral on the social media and bring bad reputation to the tourism industry in

the State.

He was interacting with media persons on the sidelines of a function in Mapusa when he was asked for his reaction to the incident on the Siolim-Chopdem bridge as well as at Chopdem where cars of tourists were stopped and the occupants

manhandled.

“Government is capable of handling any situation but if people take law into their hands then it will have long term effect on the image of the state as well as the tourism industry. Whatever happened on the Siolim-Chopdem bridge is sad and stopping cars on the pretext that the tourists were driving under the influence of alcohol wasn’t a correct step.

I have instructed the police to take tough action against drunken driving, therefore, citizens should refrain from moral policing,” the chief

minister said.
